Democratic Capitalism

What would it take to create a productive, adaptive, innovative economic system that meets every person's economic needs the way that a well run democracy meets the political needs if its citizens?  We have the technology to make enough food, water, shelter, education, safety, healthcare, etc. for every person.  How would it work though?  How would we organize that economy?
